7月5日 FORZA L'ITALIAAt the risk of being stoned by various Socceroos supporters who are still sore about last tuesday morning's match against Italy, I'm going to confess that yes, I have jumped the bandwagon...and yes, I've joined that of the Azzuri, the team that so controversially "robbed" us.
Somehow, I feel that I couldn't betray my Italian links...because I know they would have supported the green and gold if we'd progressed to the semis.
So, as a matter of course, I was stoked this morning when Grosso slipped that beauty past Lehman in the last two minutes of extra time...although, I have to admit that it stung a bit that it was him to score the winner...just a tiny bit :P
Then, while I wasn't jumping off of the settee, it was pretty cool to watch Del Piero make the most of an unselfish pass from Gilardino to finish their opponents off.
Yes, I got a small kick out of Italy's 2-0 win over the host nation. Call me a traitor, whatever. But it was a good win. And I'll be up again at 4 o'clock on Monday morning to watch the final. All that remains to be seen is who will take it up to the Azzuri in Berlin: Portugal or France?
Bets anybody? 6月28日 And so the dream ends...Well, massive congratualtions go to the boys in green and gold this week!
Enough petty arguments over the differences between the three/four football codes, their names and how great they are as games. How about we just look at this for what it is: an Australian team doing the rest of us proud.
Some people argue that the Socceroos have only gained the support they have because of bandwagon jumpers. I beg to differ. The team already had a wide supporter base in this country BEFORE the World Cup. There was just one problem: they didn't play enough meaningful games to gain crowds at their matches. I mean, which die-hard football (soccer) fan is going to fork out big bucks to take leave from their jobs and travel to Western Samoa or some other tiny island nation to watch our second-string side slaughter them ten-nil? Not real exciting is it? On the other hand, watching our first rate side compete with the best in the world is FAR more interesting, and much more likely to awaken the supporter base which has so long been dormant.
To me, jumping on the bandwagon is what the Footy Shows, from both of the other football codes respectively, have done. Travelling all the way to Germany to do their shows from, for the purpose of this excercise, "SOCCER"s World Cup is shamelessly milking somebody else's glory it for all it's worth...and trying to turn it into their own benefit. The bloody hilarious thing is though, Eddy Macguire got sponsors for that timeslot, promising them an audience of 2 million. He didn't make the cut, and now has to provide them all with free advertising to compensate! HAHA! Serves him bloody well right! That, my friends, is bandwagon jumping.
And even if you still consider the newfound football fans bandwagon jumpers, who cares? At least they're supporting their national side in a fabulous achievement.
Furthermore, who gives a damn whether you think football (soccer) or football (AFL) is better? I myself don't follow the AFL, it doesn't interest me in the slightest. However, it's obvious that while I see AFL as rather blood-thirsty, it draws an enormous supporter base in Australia. But it will never go world-wide. Soccer on the other hand, gains arguably a smaller supporter base downunder but is massive on the global scene. So, they are both great games, in different spheres.
Quit arguing over it.
AFL and the other codes, GET OVER YOUR INFERIORITY COMPLEX!!!!!!!
GO THE SOCCEROOS!!!!!!!!!!!
As for Tuesday morning, like many others at Skycity, in bars and pubs and homes across Adelaide, and throughout the nation, I was bitterly disappointed...and kind of angry about being robbed. But now that I've calmed down, I've come to the realisation that what comes around goes around. Italy, at the last World Cup, were robbed in an even more controversial style than we were. I'm still sad that we couldn't go through, but it's not the end of the world. There will be another FIFA World Cup, and we will be there, fighting it out on the field with the best of them. However, I can do nought but congratulate the Italians, and will jump on their "bandwagon" for the rest of the World Cup.
FORZA AUSTRALIA!!!! FORZA GLI AZZURI!!!!!!!!
Peace out 6月23日 Greetings all!Well, it is getting to be a long time between blogs...somehow the novelty wore off, well, months ago now. Plus I simply haven't had time.
Now that Uni's over, however, seems pertinent that I update a little.
First point. Computers suck. Big time..but possibly not as much as Max's law sucks.
Halfway through big politics take-home exam on the weekend, decided to go to the kitchen and acquire some brain food, save all work, backing up onto a pen drive, and close all windows down, leave pc running. Came back half an hour later, refreshed and raring to go...AND THE FREAKING THING WON'T WORK!!!! Move the mouse to get rid of the screen saver...nothing. Zilch, zero, naught functioning. Turned out the processor bit the dust and my stomach has marvellous timing. Thank god for laptops and USB drives, because our computer is now being rebuilt.
Secondly. Manuale d'amore is an awesome movie. Think Love Actually, with some great cringe-worthy moments but without the annoying wanker named Colin who can think of nothing else but getting laid, and with constant laugh-out-loud humour...oh, plus its in Itaian...but never fear unilinguals, there are subtitiles. Sooooooo good!
Thirdly. AUSTRALIA GOES THROUGH TO THE NEXT ROUND OF THE WORLD CUP!!!!!Harry Kewell is right up there with Tim Cahill in my book. Next match against Italy (what a coincidence) and I can assure you, there are absolutely NO divided loyalties here...I'll support the green and gold, win or lose. However, I will admit that if we get knocked out, I'll morph into an Azzuri fan for the rest of the tournament. BUT, that hasn't happened yet, and there is a chance that we can pull it off.
So, for the benefit of my dear, dear friends over there in the Belpaese: a resounding "AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE!!!" goes out to you all. OLEEEEEE, OLE OLE OLE!!!!
Peace out guys! 6月13日 AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE!!!!Australia beat Japan!!!! 3-1!!!!!!! I've never been so happy about watching a football match in my life!!! The last 9 minutes were, **sniff** beautiful! Like bloody poetry in motion!!!!!!!
And Tim Cahill has advanced to the status of demi-God...initial reaction was God, but that leaves him nowhere else to rise to during the tournament!
Then there's John Aloisi, the South Aussie hero (and I mean that in the superficial sporting context)! He nailed home the winner against Uruguay in November, and he sealed Japan's fate tonight!!
WOOOHOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! GO THE SOCCEROOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now let's see how Italy goes tonight :D FORZA L'ITALIA!!!!!!!!! 6月9日 Time for a little bit of elitism...yes, occasionally it may be justifiedOk, right now I'm going to sound like the bitchiest little elitist, but I also don't care. I sometimes wonder what it is about a minority of members of the teenage/young adult demographic that makes them so determined to embarrass the rest of us.
What makes me question this?
Well, upon my return to the train station after a trip to the city to pass up a history essay (which, by the way I had worked on for HOURS), I boarded the connecting bus to my house. Shortly afterwards, who else jumps on board but a group of clearly unenlightened riff-raff. Openly bragging about trading illegal firecrackers and vandalising public property, they, predictably, possessed a limited vocabulary, of which about a third consisted of the delightful curses "F**k" and 'C*nt'.
People like this get right up my left nostril.
Not only do they desecrate the English language by replacing it with a foul-mouthed torrent of ungrammatical nonsense, but they create a stereotype for southern youth which doesn't necessarily reflect the good characteristics of the majority. Besides, these kids should have been at school or in some form of vocational study rather than behaving in such a manner that serves no purpose than to make themselves a nuisance to the general public.
I understand that the area is low socioeconomic, but that's no excuse. I have a few tips for people like this:
1. You wear the latest brandname clothes - 3 sizes to big for you; how about you make yourselves look slightly more respectable by buying some that ACTUALLY FIT!!!!!
2. Alternatively, stop buying name brands and buy a REAL vowel!!! I'm sick of hearing so many "schwa"s in a sentence (apologies, linguistics term)
3. Better stiil, forget buying a vowel: PURCHASE A FULLY DEVELOPED, SOPHISTICATED LEXICON!!!!
4. I'm sorry, unfortunately the above point is not quite possible. Next best option is for you to buy less oversized clothes, and invest in, now listen carefully, I don't want you to miss this, an ED-U-CA-TION...for those of you who don't understand, allow me to put it in your terms: EJUCAYSHUN...better?
5.Try having a shower once a day, I assure you, people will view instantly view you as more approachable if you don't smell like the weed you did three nights ago.
6. Don't carry alcohol onto public transport
7. Pay the bus driver some respect, and for God's sake, if you don't wait for the bus at the correct stop, don't abuse the driver and gesture rudley when he nearly doesn't stop to pick you up
8.The previous seven points should go without saying.
For those of you who are actually decent contributors to society (I would think the majority of you), I apologise for the extended whinge. However, I'm sick of my friends and I being thrown into the same category as these imbeciles.
Until the next time...
5月22日 Alright...I'm gonna keep this short and sweet because I have precious little time on my hands, however, I feel I need to make a brief and probably rather superficial point.
Bert Newton should have quit while he was ahead. Old Moonface is old, he's not funny and Channel 9 should definitely not be prolonging his retirement by means of crappy shows like Family Feud and 20 to 1. Plus his eyebrows don't move. How many facelifts can a person get away with, anyway?
That's it. Period.
Later 5月5日 A short spielOk, while I'm waiting for my hundred pages of readings for this week to print off, I'm going to have a quick bout of the verbal runs regarding a couple of things that have been bugging me the last couple of days:
Number 1:
Why do some Adelaidians seem to have a complex regarding their personal hygeine? I mean, really, is it SO difficult to have a shower each day...or even just to wash your hands?? Example: Last night at work, I had a total of about four or five people hand money over to me with hands looking like they'd been rubbed in I don't want to know what, and then been left unwashed to the extent that the festering gunk had ENCRUSTED in their knuckles and under their fingernails. People, I pray you, before you go to hand over cash to some poor sales girl who is required to take the money out of your hands, make sure they're sparkling clean...and another thing, we aren't so poor here in Adelaide that we can't afford to have showers, are we?...Personally, I shower at least once every day...that should be about the average, shouldn't it? seriously, the number of people i passed today in the city who looked and smelt like they hadn't showered in weeks...it's revolting. and unhealthy.
Number 2:
This is where I may come across as a miserable old fart whilst I make this big generalisation, however, I need to get this off my chest...What a sad, sad reflection on the youth of today:I'm sitting at the train station this afternoon, waiting to be transported into that utopia we call university, and there 's these three high school-age girls sitting nearby, one of them in the local public school uniform (for those of you who know me, you know to which school I refer). Now these kids would be no more than Year 9 or Year 10, and there they are, sitting there puffing away on their death-sticks, DIVIDING BETWEEN THEM THE GOODIES THEY'D JUST PILFERED from the shopping centre. I mean, really. And you know what they'd taken? huh?
SOCKS.
Yes, that;s right, they have the money to buy their cigarettes but things are so bad that they have to steal a pair of socks.
Kids like this piss me off.
They are offered an education, primarily payed for at the expense of the tax payers, and they shit all over it. Now, I'm a supporter of a welfare system for those who truly require it. And I understand that there are limitations on what we can do to prevent the system being abused, without adversely affecting those who really do rely upon it (ie, the unemployed who are genuinely seeking work, the disabled, the elderly etc). And I also understand that these girls are probably a minority among their age group (but it IS minorities who tend to make a bad name for the majority) However, it really gets my goat that the tax that honest people pay is being sucked up by some bottomless pits who have no appreciation whatsoever.
So children, understand this. No matter what kind off school you go to, public or private, the taxpayers, by means of the State, pay for a large portion of your education. Show some appreciation, make the most of the services that are on offer to you, and make the most of your life instead of wasting your intelligence (yes, I know its all buried in there somewhere) on stealing socks.
Just some words of advice.

4月24日 "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing" ~Helen KellerAnd adventuring i have been...well, to a certain extent anyway...
so yes, please excuse the two week absence...yes that's right for those of you who didn't notice, this is the first time i've blogged in two loooooong weeks...
And my adventure took me to....drum roll...none other than our most notorious penal settlement of old, formerly known as Van Deimen's Land....the fabulous Tasmania!
No, I'm serious, it is a really great place. I mean, there are kilometres and kilometres of untouched bushland...but at the same time there are kilometres and kilometres of burnt of land....we wonder who it is in Australia that is contributing so greatly to global warming? it's the foresting indutry, especially in Tasmania, I tell you! Now, I'm no greeny, but it seems to me that after felling all these trees, the best thing to do to get rid of the waste would be to get a bulldozer and remove it to somewhere that it will be of use...but alas no! In Tassie, the pyros burn it!!!
On a brighter note, except for getting slightly sick of being in the constant company of my family, i had an awesome time...highlights included a near 200 metre plunge of the snowy plateau of Cradle Mountain (not so great), the slow and steep ascent out of Queenstown through a mountainous quarry(also not so great)....a dinner cruise in an old ferry around the harbour in Hobart (ah...much better), the Tahune airwalk and a visit to Port Arthur...oh yeah, and not to forget the great yet slightly repetitive scenery from atop the great geological structure, the Nut.
Oh yeah...AND I GOT SNOWED ON!!! We got caught up the top of Mount Wellington when a mini blizzard-thingo started so we got shelter in the lookout up there, but we went back the next day and it had all settled and it was soooo awesome!!
I'm sorry, I get slightly excited when I see snow...embarassingly childish habit of mine....
But yes, got back in the mid-morning yesterday (6.30am flight from Devonport...**shudder**) and today it was crashing back to shitty reality...Whammo! History essay due by 12pm on the first day back...plus I have a cold **sniffle**...oh well...public holiday tomorrow...chance to catch back up on the sleep and the study
Now i just have shitloads of photos to name...sucks to like organisation...
Anyhow, enough boring people will tales of my travels to the distant lands...I'm sure we've got more important things to do than blogging...and if you lot are still reading at this point, shame on you.
Catch yas.
xoxo 4月6日 Good evening good peopleIt's finished!!! Finished I tell you!! I feel so free, finally I can breathe again...I'm so beside myself I'm on the verge of burning my bra...
ok maybe that was a slight exageration...but it does feel good not to have to worry about that infernal politics essay anymore...
AND TOMORROW'S THE LAST DAY BEFORE HOLIDAYS!!!!!!!! **dances joyously**
anyway...bed calls... I might not get online very much in the next two weeks, so if i don't blog before:
HAPPY EASTER TO ALL!!!! 4月2日 What a shyte!Hello all...yes, after a week or so's absence, I have returned to torture you all with my ridiculous ramblings ...hey! that's assonance, how poetic of me! ;)
But yes...finished house-sitting today YAY!!!! won't be doing that again anytime soon **shudders**
Hey, a question for you all...does anyone else randomly get extremely philosophical moments...I got one of them today...kind of unsettling really...I was going through the photos on my digital camera and i found a random one of my bedroom that i'd taken when i first got the camera for my birthday...and it suddenly entered my mind, that that's a snapshot of a moment that I'll NEVER get back again...i mean, all photos are remnants of a unique millisecond that we won't experience again...amazing hey? All of a sudden i resolved to always live life to the full, live for the moment. Then I came here to write a blog about it....does anyone else see the irony there? resolution now moot. Bit of a shit, hey? heheheh
In other news...only one more week of uni to go before I'm on holidays **dances with joy** But this week is going to be crapola (heheh...word of the week, hey @$H...) a major politics essay due, a history test (gulp), an italian literature test, and a linguistics practical due **wails blood-curdlingly**
But I guess at least after this week I'm relieved of all obligation i have towards other people...ie, pre-season training, turning up to uni tutes, work...among other things...the easter holidays will be all about ME...well, to a certain extent anywyay...in between history essays...
Anyways, gotta go
catch u all later
xoxoxo
3月23日 Hello all!Long time no see, hey?...well, I reckon it's getting on to at least a week since i last blogged...yeah that sounds about right. But truth is I haven't had ANY access to my home internet in all that time **jaw drops**...how I survived I'm not sure...actually, come to think of it, I didn't really miss it that much...the worst part is having to stay back at the library after uni and use the net there. For those of you who have no idea what i'm on about, I'm house-sitting at my grandparents at the moment, and they don't have broadband, only prepaid **cries** and I can't suck up all their credit 'cause that would just be mean....**sighs wistfully**
Anyway, I'm only home for about an hour and a half tonight so I must go, but i thought I'd just touch base again and see how my lovely peeps are going
catchya

Will add to this later
3月5日 Greetings and SalutationsHello, and welcome to my new-look space...I was a bit over the bright pink and the flowers and thought it was time for a nice, refreshing change...plus I figured seeing as this has been a fortnight of new-beginnings that a major change was rather pertinent...so for those of you who are wondering, yes, you probably are in the right place. For those of you who have no idea who I am, you're not where you thought you should be but you're quite welcome to have a browse in here and leave nice comments if you wish :D Anyhow, for those of you who are interested, I finally managed to upload some of those photos! Stupid computer wouldn't let me add photos for WEEKS...I'll add more later. Not sure why my media player isn't working though but I'll fix it another time But now, my friends (and strangers), study calls **shudder**...and so it begins... See you all soon Mel xoxo 2月28日 Time for a quick blog...before bed...
anyhow: Evening all!
Has been a busy few days...party, recovery, start uni, gym...ergh...I'm tired just thinking about it.
So today I discovered that Europe, Empire and the World could well be the most boring course that I'm taking...and it's compulsory!! And of course, today being probably the most boringtopic, they place us in the most comfortable lecture theatre in the university, with the lights dimmed slightly, and the airconditioner on full blast...well, I was out like a light...or would have been if not for the matchsticks propping my eyelids open...note to self: take STRONG coffee into these lectures with me (two shots at least)
I also started believing in bad omens...examples? well...start work at 8 a...my first shift icing on my own so i'm nervous enough as it is...then I find out i'm training the new girl on icing (shiiiiiiit.....don't f**k it up mel!!!)...had a splitting headache all day, ran out of bottled water, was running late to netball and walked out the door only to find I had to fix all the settings in my car...then the freaking P-plate wouldnt stay where it was meant to go...I arrive at netball, only to hear this buzing noise around my head and feel a killer insect (aka a massive bee) land on my back (IN MY CAR!!!)...then we lost the final :( ...i know it's not overly dramatic but if my day wasnt full of little omens, then I dont know what they were.
it's good though uni...much more chiiled than high school...only thing is I'm so used to sitting in class like a stunned mullett absorbing everything the teacher tells you that you need to know, that it might be hard to adjust to actually generating discussion...but hey, that'll be the fun bit
Have met some really great people as well...and O-week was awesome...lol, even though I have been permanently put off Farmer's Union Iced Coffee...I mean, who but university students would think of inducing projectile vomit by skulling 4L of the stuff...then projectile-vomiting into a bin non-stop for about 10 minutes..:S
I got an e-mail from the bastard admin department today though...seems they've decided to add an extra $20 dollars onto my entrance fee...wankers.... ouch! I have a really fat mozzie bite, right on the arch of my foot....grrr...it's soooo itchy...
ergh...bed calls...later xoxo
2月23日 HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!
"Happy birthday to me...happy birthday to me (all together now!)..." no? anybody?...
well...lol...so yes, 18 today...don't feel much older than yesterday...except for the fact i got to walk into the unibar and buy myself and friends a drink...an alcoholic drink that is...and I was kind of hoping they'd ask me for ID...but they didnt
Anyhow...places to go, things to do...catch up with you all later xoxo
2月17日 Un salutoOggi, vorrei mandare un enorme saluto ai miei conoscenti italiani...e` da un'po` che non ci troviamo in linea insieme...in parte a causa degli orari diversi...
allora CIAOOOOOOOOOO!!!
ci sentiamo tra poco spero...bacioni a tutti xoxo
2月13日 A Culture of CommercialismToday I'd like to have a brief spiel on what I consider a failing by both the Adelaide City Council and the South Australian Government. And before anyone jumps down my throat to tell me how fantastic Mike Rann is, I'm not referring to WHO is in government (could be either Liberal or Labour for all I care).
So, yesterday a group of friends from the Italian exchange had organised to go to Carnevale in the city...we all roll up promptly (ahem) within a half hour of the agreed meeting time....
Ok, so when you pay that much to get in (if I'd forgotten my student card I would have been paying $12) you kind of expect that there'd be at least some free amusements in there to make the money worthwhile, no? Well, there wasn't. You payed to get in, then you payed through the nose for food and amusements. This is a cultural event, for heaven's sake! We're meant to be seeing the best of the Italian community within South Australia. The Glendi festival (Greek) has the same problem. It's difficult to promote a culture when a traditional festival becomes a money-making machine...
So, at first I was slightly miffed with the organising committee for this incredible commercialisation of their culture. Then I discover that the Government and the Council charge them in the 10 to 20 thousand dollar range, just to hold the event. So organisers have to slug ridiculous sums of money to event-goers, simply to break even.
Even after the Carnevale and the Glendi committees applied for government grants to help support the festivals, the government and council refused. How the hell is this promoting multi-culturalism in South Australia????
Perhaps with a little more supoort from councils, governments and the community in general, the organisers of these events would be able to lower the entrance fees (maybe abolishing them altogether would be too optimistic?) to make the event less commercialised and more enjoyable for all.
Anyhow, moving on. Did anyone watch the opening of the Winter Olympics? Awesome stuff! Loved the fireworks too...lol, such a pyro....And omg! watching the highlights last night, those luge specialists are maniacs!!! going down a 117 metre drop at 120 km per hour, lying back on a platform of wood or whatever it is, steering with the freaking ankles!!!!! Made for some spectacular crashes....fortunately nobody was hurt...amazing to watch tho...seriously, anyone who doesnt think these sports are worthy of being Olympic events, stop being traditionalists and give these athletes credit...they're amazing!
But yes, I should stop procrastinating and get myself organised...got stuff to do before work...bye xoxo 2月8日 And so it begins...But what? what on earth could be beginning that would require such underlying tones of doom??
Pre-season training.
**gurgle**
Yes. That's right...ten weeks of intensive gym sessions,at least twice a week...until April...on top of my own (semi-existent) training regime
Some of you will be going "so what??"...those who know me will realise how much I despise having someone over my shoulder, pushing me to work harder ("I'm going as fast as I can, DAMMIT!")
Well, I guess it can't be helped...
On the bright side, I'll be fitter than ever before...
**shudder** 2月3日 maybe that was slightly over the topbut whether it was or it wasn't, HOPEFULLY all those problems are solved now....I now just await part 2 of my cross-institutional enrolment from Flinders...they'd better get their act together because uni starts in, oh, three weeks....
hmmm...I'm bored...I started writing my speech today...HAH!! They want me to go into the school so they can check what i've written...slight insult to my intelligence, WTF do they think I was going to write..."the place is a shit-hole and I would have done better remaining at my previous school"? I wont name my previous school for fear of being tracked down by some violent psychopath (albeit a minority there)...but those of you who know me will get the irony...
ergh!

1月29日 Good evening all...Hmm...today is one of those days where you feel like you're going to crash the minute your head hits those heavenly soft pillows!...for those of you who dont know me that well, this is an extremely rare occurence for me...
**yawn**
hehe...back to school for so many this week... i'm seriously going to relish lying late in bed for the next month, watching Samantha get up and trudge out the house ...ah....sweet payback for all those holidays when i've had to work early and she's been the slack one
Enrolment advice sessions start for uni this week...in fact, tomorrow! kind of looking forward to them...kind of not...
**yawn**
well, typing this has been a complete waste of energy...i did have something significant to talk about, but i can't remember what it was...herumph! probably demonstrates the true extent of it's importance anyway.
catch you all later xoxo
1月26日 Struth!Ah! Australia Day! One of the few days when we, as Australian's show our true, under-lying patriotism. Or use our patriotism to get pissed (as Max so truthfully put it). So, yes...well anyway, I followed the good ol' Ozzie tradition of going to a Triple J Hot-100 Competition at a friend's house...downed a few shotties and soime bourbon and cola, then went home...for which I apologise for any horrendous grammatical errors that i may have made while I wrote this...
Heh..yes, so we all don the green and gold and celebrate our country's history...well, some people anyway...however i have to agree with Max that most people are more interested in the cricket and tennis than the actual meaning of Australia Day
Anyway...I'm heading off to have a nap now... **yawns** I'm tired...don't know whether it's the heat or the alcohol...maybe a bit of both...
HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY TO ALL!!
xoxo 1月25日 Testosterone and SportGood evening kiddies...now for my latest moral spiel. Yes, that's right, Mel is, yet again, up on her moral high-horse. Shutup! I heard all those sighs **glares round**.
Anyhow, where was I? Oh, yes, that's right. Sport. And testosterone. Ok, so here's the thing guys: (and girls just to be politically correct) when playing any kind of sport, social or competitive it is COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE to show any form of violence toward another, player, umpire or spectator. Maybe, being an umpire myself, I am slightly biased in this department, however the event that sparked my current mood occured while I was playing...
So, there are several things that irk me about sports players. Number One is the way some of them (and I admit, i'm not entirely innocent of it either) question the decision of umpires. Whether playing at a social, club or state level, we need umpires in order to play. SO DON'T BAG THEM! Now, that doesnt mean we can't disagree with their calls, but it DOES mean we shouldnt be making a fuss and throwing a tantrum like little children when calls go against us.
Number Two: Can't we just play the game for the game's sake? What's the point in getting all narky when we break the rules and then get penalised for them?? I mean, the umpires are there to tell us when we've done wrong, and it's not until we make less mistakes than the umpires that we are remotely in a position to criticise.
Or when the opposition wants to fight dirty, why must people insist on starting shit with them? From what I've seen, this seems to happen most in mixed sport...and, no offence gentlemen, but the really violent stuff tends to happen between you guys (however, I have seen some chicks get pretty fiesty...) The best place to hurt the opposition is on the scoreboard, by beating them with sheer determination and skill. Violence not only hurts the person you vent your anger and frustration on, but it hurts your reputation, and your other team members.
So there it is ladies and gents. Don't let testosterone get the better of you when playing sport. You'll only embarass yourself and other people...and probably do something you end up regretting.
I might add to this blog when I'm a little less busy.
For now, goodnight. |
